Catechism & 5th – 6th Grade Religion
Pastor Mark Voss teaches Catechism and 5th – 6th grade religion classes. Pastor Voss has been serving as pastor at Divine Grace since the summer of 2003. He was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He graduated from Northwestern College in Watertown, WI in 1986, and from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI in 1990. He spent the first 13 years of his ministry serving as an associate pastor at Salem Lutheran Church in northwest Milwaukee before coming to Divine Grace.
In addition to serving as pastor at Divine Grace, Pastor Voss is also the circuit pastor of the St. Clair Circuit of the Michigan District. He thoroughly enjoys preaching, teaching, and interacting with God’s people both young and old.
Pastor Voss is married to Lori, an administrative assistant at a large company not far from Lake Orion. They are blessed with four wonderful daughters and a son-in-law. Pastor is a huge sports fan (especially his beloved Green Bay Packers) and enjoys doing all kinds of DIY projects around the house.
Principal & 5th – 8th Grade
Nolan Valus began serving at Divine Grace in 2021. During his childhood, he attended school at Good Shepherd, Burton, graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary (2007), and Martin Luther College (2011). In 2012 he began working towards a graduate degree and graduated from Martin Luther College with a Masters in Education in 2017. Nolan looks forward to working with the children and families at Divine Grace to expand the students’ knowledge not just in school subjects, but in their closeness and love of their Savior.
Prior to Divine Grace, Nolan served as a teacher and principal at Mt. Olivde Lutheran School, Delano, MN from 2011-2018. Following his service there, he taught grades 5-8 and served as principal at St. John’s Lutheran School in Saginaw, MI from 2018-2021.
Nolan is an avid sports fan and enjoys cheering on the Michigan Wolverines and the Chicao Bears. He likes participating in a number of sports as well, including basketball, golf and others. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Courtney, and two daughters, Adria and Felicity, as they enjoy the outdoors, traveling, and growing together in the Word..
3rd – 4th Grade
Rachel Nottling joined the teaching staff at DGLS in 2018. Rachel is the second of Pastor David and Linda Nottling’s five children. She attended school at Zion Lutheran (Chesaning, MI), St. John’s (Fox Lake, WI), Luther Preparatory High School (Watertown, WI), and Martin Luther College (New Ulm, MN).
In 2007, Rachel was assigned to teach Kindergarten-4th grade at Peace Lutheran School in Otsego, MI. Three years later, she accepted a call to Christ the King Elementary School in Palm Coast, Florida. In Florida she taught kindergarten and 3rd-4th grade. After four years of sun, Rachel made a cross-country move to the rainy climate of Port Orchard, Washington. There she served at Bethany Lutheran School as the 3rd-4th grade and upper grades reading teacher.
Rachel loves to spend time with her two nieces and nine nephews (and the rest of her family). She loves to cook and try new recipes. She is a very talented teacher who treasures the opportunity to share God’s Word with His lambs here at Divine Grace!
1st – 2nd Grade
Courtney Valus grew up in Michigan and attended Mt. Olive Lutheran in Bay City. She then went on to attend Michigan Lutheran Seminary where she met her husband, Nolan. They both graduated from MLS in 2007, and went on to graduate from Martin Luther College in 2011. They were married following graduation and moved to their assigned congregation, Mt. Olive Lutheran, in Delano, Minnesota. They served the congregation there from 2011-2018, where they also had their two daughters. Nolan was called to serve St. John’s in Saginaw, MI from 2018-2021, and Courtney at MLS from 2019-2021, before accepting the call to serve at Divine Grace in 2021.
As a family, the Valuses love spending time outdoors playing, hiking swimming, as well as cheering on the Michigan Wolverines. Courtney enjoys golf and volleyball. Music is an important part of their life as they both play piano and organ. They enjoy being back home in Michigan and getting to travel to their family favorite spots like Mackinaw Island in Northern Michigan.
Kindergarten and Young Fives
Kristi Coffin was born in Tawas City, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary in 2001. Kristi graduated from Martin Luther College, in New Ulm, MN in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
Prior to accepting her call to teach Kindergarten at Divine Grace in 2015, Kristi taught at Shepherd of Peace Christian Academy in Powell, Ohio. While there, Kristi taught Preschool and developed and taught their Kindergarten program. Kristi has introduced a fantastic Young Fives program at Divine Grace, integrating Young Fives in with the Kindergarteners to expand their knowledge and learning experiences.
Kristi is married to Tristram and they are blessed to have two sons. Kristi enjoys all things football! Her three favorite teams are: 1) Her son’s travel flag football team 2) Ohio State Buckeyes and 3) Detroit Lions.
